I chose big book because children are very familiar and loves story. It is best conducted with students gather around the teacher or sit on the mat surrounds the teacher.
I think I would prefer to use big book approach in a standard 1-3classroom. I would use this Big Book by doing pre-reading activities, activities with the book itself, and extension activities. The themes into which I'd like to incorporate this book is world of stories.
Before reading this book for the first time, I will have my students to notice the title, the cover illustrations and maybe few questions regarding the stories. Some of the student may have read or listen to the stories before. I will ask the students to describe the characters in the stories. Next, I will ask each student to draw a picture that represents his/her favourite type of character in the story.
After this initial activity, we will read the book as a read aloud. I will read through it once, instructing the students to listen closely to determine if 'their' favourite character are mentioned in the book. When we are done, I will ask students to came up with their own ending.
Then, I will tell the student that we will read through the book again, only, this time I want the student to tell and finish the story with their own ending.
